Welcome to Hope Masike & Kakuwe

Hope Masike’s unique lyricism and mbira playing has impressed audiences in Zimbabwe, the Netherlands, Mozambique and elsewhere.

Backed by her talented, virtustic band called Kakuwe, Masike explores new musical possibilities, taking her listener through a wonderful multi-cultural musical experience. Given birth to in 2008, the band Kakuwe comprises ploy rhythmic bassist Elisha Herema, phenomenal marimba maestro Songwe Limbikani, Hope and Kakuwemulti-talented Theresa Muteta on soprano recorder and dance, the multi-percussionist and professional dancer Blessed Rukweza and Hope Masike’s enchanting voice. The catchy mbira-based rythms, warm heated and soprano recorder melodies and the irresistible drum patterns are brought together by the young band with an artistry and originality that bellies their age.

Hope neKakuwe bring out a music style which is infused with the traditions of Africa but still is quite in tune with modernity. Their very distinctive approach to music makes Kakuwe one of the freshest and most interesting features on the Zimbabwean music scene currently. With a permanent slot of shows at the Book Café on Tuesdays and their national and international tours with Umoja, the band has been turning heads wherever they go, earning themselves a rapturous following of music lovers and critics alike.
